SRBWC Partners with MHCC Gresham Campus to go Salmon-Safe
Over the last six months MHCC has partnered with Sandy River Basin Watershed Council (SRBWC) to conduct a series of campus retrofits to begin in the summer of 2017. SRBWC has successfully acquired several major grants from Metro, City of Gresham, and East Multnomah Soil Water Conservation District to accomplish the enormous project. This green retrofit is a great step towards improving overall Beaver Creek watershed health. Kelly Creek, a tributary of Beaver Creek, runs through the Gresham campus, and it is noted in the article below that the Kelly Creek pond on campus increases the water temperature by 4-5 degrees. And that's celsius! The efforts made by SRBWC and the other members of the Beaver Creek Conservation Partnership will aid in dramatically reducing the high temperatures entering the watershed within the college's footprint. These efforts will also reduce non-point source pollution such as runoff from the parking lots on campus that currently drain into Beaver Creek directly. It is certainly a win for the watershed!
