First Salmon Survey Complete
We have completed our first salmon survey of the season. As anticipated, we did not see salmon in either the main stem or south fork of Beaver Creek. There just isn't enough sustained rain yet to get the flow right for fish to come up.
If you look around the Pacific NW, you'll see similar findings. The Bonnevile Dam fish counts are not as high as anticipated either.
An article in the SFGate describes how summer drought conditions are impacting the winter runs of northern California salmonids. You can read the article here:
The good news is that the rains are returning. The weather report for the Portland Metro area calls for rain every day in the upcoming week, without any sign of stopping in the following week. We could see salmonids returning to the tributaires of Sandy River watershed any day now.
