Green Sunfish in South Fork Beaver Creek
In the course of completing our first salmon survey of the year, we discovered a high number of green sunfish in our stream. These fish are an invasive species that are most likely coming from ponds upstream on the South Fork of Beaver Creek.
A word of caution for our neighbors: If you are going to stock your ponds with fish, please be sure that your stocked fish cannot escape the confines of your pond during high water events in the rainy season. You can also choose to stock your ponds with triploids, which are fish that cannot breed. This way, if a high water event catches you by surprise, you can rest assured that your escaped fish will not be competing with (or hybridizing with) native fish.
